Stay Healthy During Back to School Time!

It's back to school in Toronto! I was in school for so many years, that even before I had a child who was school-aged I always felt a change in September - like it was the start of a new year.

Things are looking a little different this year, and more than ever it's important to stay healthy! With school in-person for most kids again, exposure to all sorts of colds & flus (and unfortunately covid-19) will be on the rise again. I found it so interesting that while we were hardy interacting with people last winter, there were also record low rates of influenza and most other childhood diseases. Here are my top 5 suggestions for staying healthy this fall!

1. Wear your mask.

2. Wash your hands PROPERLY! - here's a link to a video on how to wash your hands (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9hjmqes72I)

3. Take your Vitamin D - there is a very high prevalence of Vitamin D deficiency in Canada in the winter, and Vitamin D is very important for good immune function.

4. Eat a well balanced diet (including fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean protein) - keeping your blood sugar regulated and eating lots of anti-oxidants are two important ways to help your immune system function properly.

5. Take some herbs or probiotics to help even further. Once summer is over, I start thinking about other ways to enhance my immune function as I'm stuck inside more and my exposure to germs increases. Herbs & probiotics are on the top of my list for my family! If you'd like some help with this one, please make an appointment as different herbs are better for different people!

I'm always available for virtual appointments, so if you're not feeling the best - please make a virtual appointment and we can talk it out. I hope you have a wonderful fall, and stay healthy!
