Solid Sleep

Bedtime is my favourite time of day - I love sleep!  I'm always amazed at how many people let their evening slip away and go to bed too late at the sacrifice of their sleep.  This is an easy one for me, personally, because I love sleep so much.  Some people just need to go to bed earlier, but other people have a hard time falling or staying asleep and that might be a bit more complicated.

Research suggests that sleep helps with memory, mood, energy, heart health, weight control, and immune function.  Life is just easier if you've had a good nights sleep!

Sleep hygeine is a term that we use to describe the behaviours and environment surrounding your sleep.  Some tips include:

- have a regular bedtime

- sleep in a dark, cool room

- have a relaxing routine that you follow before bed - e.g. a hot bath or reading a paper book

- avoid caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol before bed

- avoid screens 1 hour before bed

- only use your bed for sleep & sex

If these things aren't enough to set you up for a good nights sleep, meditation and sleep stories can also be helpful to help you wind down and drift off.

If you've tried these things and still need help, or if you're wanting a more specific approach - please reach out!  There are many natural options to help solidify sleep.

This is a photo of my son when he was little and how he used to fall asleep - he had been asleep for 45 minute when I'd gone in to check on him and saw this!
