There have been so many questions about the Coronavirus-19, that I thought I should put together a little newsletter on the topic.
How is COVID-19 spread?
- respiratory droplets that are shed when you cough or sneeze
- close personal contact, such as shaking hands
- touching a surface that has the virus on it, then touching your eyes, nose, or mouth before washing your hands (though we think that the virus has poor survivability on surfaces)
What are the symptoms of COVID-19?
The symptoms are generally similar to a common cold or flu and may include:
- shortness of breath
- symptoms may not present themselves until 14 days after you've been exposed to the virus and we don't know if people are contagious when they don't yet have symptoms
This gives us lots of information! Here are some things that we should be doing every winter, whether there's a coronavirus-19 watch or not:
#1 WASH YOUR HANDS THOROUGHLY WITH SOAP & WATER! Below is a link to the World Health Organization instructions on hand washing. Only if soap & water is unavailable, use hand sanitizer and rub your hands together for at least 20 seconds.
#2 COUGH AND SNEEZE INTO YOUR ELBOW! This will reduce the spread of respiratory droplets.
#3 AVOID TOUCHING YOUR FACE!
#4 STAY HYDRATED, GET ADEQUATE SLEEP, EAT HEALTHY FOODS. Keeping your body as healthy as possible should help you fight whatever you may come in contact with.
