The British Medical Journal (BMJ) is starting a social campaign called Make Your Day Harder.  They have realized that as years go by, people are getting more and more sedentary.  Sitting all day is an independent risk factor for poor health!  Unfortunately, most people in Toronto's downtown core that I see do exactly that.  I often encourage my patients to get more active in all sorts of ways - even setting a calendar pop up every hour so that you walk around the office can be helpful.

A new tool by the BMJ will explain all about "sitting disease" and the challenges people face to become more active.

Make Your Day Harder isn't about running marathons.  It's about getting off the bus a stop or two earlier, taking the TTC and walking up the stairs instead of taking the elevator, parking at the farthest spot in the parking lot, walking to the store rather than taking the car, walking around the office every hour, going for a walk during your lunch break, etc.  Any little bit of exercise counts!!!

Here's the link to the blog where I was reading all about this.  Now I'm going to get off my computer and do some jumping jacks - just for fun!
